The morita pepper comes from the "Chile Jalapeño" (fresh form). When it dries, it obtains a shape similar to that of chipotle but with a darker and brighter color as well as having a smaller size.
Although these peppers are smoked like the more common chipotle, the process for them is shorter. If a recipe calls for these peppers and you don't have any available, you can use Chipotle instead as they come from the same Jalapeño pepper. Use one Chipotle chili for every two Morita Chiles if it is desired to substitute in recipes.
You can use these chilies to make sauces and to add some flavor and heat to stews. They are popularly used to make some versions of Salsa Macha.
